Raceday sponsor, Kingmakers Syndications was feeling very generous this Christmas by giving away a 2.5% share in a racehorse at last week’s Taupo Cup races.
With a prize valued at $7,750, including all racing expenses paid to the end of the horse’s 3 year-old season, the prize certainly attracted a lot of interest (and 600 entries) from on-course race goers.
A big congratulations goes to Taupo local Judith Rolls, who technically had a 600-1 chance of being drawn out of the large box of entries. On course from race one, Judith and husband Jack got their entry in early in the day.
They made their way to the bird cage after a friend called them, telling them to turn the car around as Judith’s name had been called out over the loudspeaker by course announcer Andre Neil. The couple were a bit dazed and confused to say the least when making themselves known at the birdcage. Both have had a few small shares in racehorses over the years, and mentioned they were looking forward to following another horse during their retirement, so I guess this is it!
The prize, a 2.5% share in a 2 year-old by first season Australian sire Wild Ruler, out of speed mare Kennocha, who won 5 races in Perth and was a recent Karaka Ready to Run Sales purchase (LOT 409) by Kingmakers founder. Shares are selling well in this stunning horse with only 50% now available.
Hopefully we can encourage a few more people from the Taupo Cup Day into horse ownership, looking at the numbers of patrons on course there certainly was plenty who are still super keen on the sport.
If you are interested in taking the plunge and owning a share in a racehorse (making it a your New Year’s resolution maybe) - we have two fantastic options below for you.
